Tampi Sensei (2024)
Medium: Leftover fabrics weaved on a wicker basket.
Story: During one of the visits to Pasar Chow Kit to collect the food waste, the KLCD team was made aware of the transitions of the historical old market by the locals and found ourselves with the responsibilities of sharing the stories of the old tenant. The wicker basket or Tampi used for this installation was scavenged from the old medicine shop named Sensei. The clothes weaved in the installation are leftover fabrics from the project and can be seen as a representation of the souls weaving in and out of the market.
Stesen Berikut-Nya (2024)
Medium: Natural dye patchwork on Gunny sack bag, installation.
Story: Inspired by the Rapid KL map that's zoomed-in on the three stations (Masjid Jamek, Pasar Seni, Chow Kit) near the markets for the collection of food waste. The colours used in the patches are from avocado, onion, pomegranate and mint.
Buah Berangan (2024)
Medium: Natural ink print screened on cloth dipped in natural dye.
Ingredients of Colours: Pomegranate, and Mint.
Story: Reproduction of the signage from the famous chestnut stall in Chi Cheong Kai or better known as Petaling Street, Chinatown.
Tuala Peluh (2024)
Medium: Natural ink print screened on cloth dipped in natural dye.
Ingredients of Colours: Pomegranate, Banana Stem, Pandan.
Story: Inspired by the ‘Good Day’ towel used by most labourers in all the markets in Kuala Lumpur and extensively Malaysia.
Kacang Rebus TikTok (2024)
Medium: Natural ink print screened on cloth dipped in natural dye made of avocado, overdye technique of adding pandan layering on the seasoned fabric.
Ingredients of Colours: Pandan, Onion, overdyed avocado.
Story: Reproduction of the signage from a vendor in Kampung Baru.
Lai Lai Lai (2024)
Medium: Natural ink calligraphy by Uncle Steven (70 years old artist) on cloth dipped in natural dye.
Ingredients of Colours: Banana stem with iron modifier.
Story: Inspired by the calls of every merchant to attract the attention of potential customers at all the markets in Kuala Lumpur and extensively Malaysia.
Itik Panggang Masin (2024)
Medium: Natural ink print screened on cloth dipped in natural dye.
Ingredients of Colours: Pomegranate and mint with iron modifier.
Story: Reproduction of the signage from the famous roasted duck in Chi Cheong Kai or better known as Petaling Street, Chinatown.
